Electronic Prescription Service

EPS

Electronic Prescription Service is being introduced in Wales from November 2024 which is making changes to the way prescriptions are issued in Wales.  This easy and secure service will let your GP send your prescription electronically to your chosen pharmacy without the need for a paper form. Digital prescriptions are easier, safer, more convenient and better for the environment too.

This will help us to work towards a paper free NHS, patients will no longer have to visit a GP practise just to collect a paper prescription.  Instead, your GP will send it electronically to your chosen pharmacy initially via the Avicenna Chain in Caldicot, Magor and Portskewett.  GP's and other prescribers will sign prescriptions digitally, and pharmacies and dispensers will be able to reduce the use of paper.

What this means for you

  • You can continue to order your prescription in your usual manner.  We recommend downloading the NHS Wales App to support this.

  • Timeline for prescription management will not change - ABUHB advised 7 working days between order and collection of your prescription.

  • You will need to nominate a chosen pharmacy to receive your prescription electronically.  Please speak to your local Avicenna pharmacy to arrange this.
